Moyang Okira has made it his life’s mission to preserve the primary forest of his ancestral land and to invite visitors to experience the magic of the cloud forest and witness the treasures within.

About Keki

The Location

Keki is nestled in the lower montane forest of the Adelbert Mountains, in Madang, Papua New Guinea. The Adelbert mountain range is cloaked in rainforest, and is home to many rare species of fauna and flora and is highly biodiverse. The Adelbert Range is home to many species of birds, including birds of paradise and the endemic Fire-maned Bowerbird.

The Lodge

Keki is remote, and basic in amenities. No electricity, no plumbing, no wi-fi. Bush material huts, a drop toilet, food cooked over fire. Wash in the pristine fresh water of the mountain stream. This is true village life. Moyang established Keki Eco-Mountain Lodge with his wife Ruth, and he now hosts small birding groups and tourists, who experience a true back to nature adventure.

The Journey

From the town of Madang on the north coast of Papua New Guinea, Keki is 3-4 hour car trip. Moyang will meet you in town where you will buy provisions for your stay at the local market and supermarkets. You will need to hire a 4x4 and drive 90 Km along the coastal highway before turning inland to start the 27 Km bumpy trip up the mountain. Be warned that the condition of the road depends on many factors including recent weather. It can be rough and bumpy, washed out in places and boggy in places, but the journey is well worth it.
